Mad River Access and Thank You from ODNR
COFF recently received a thank-you letter from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) for making a contribution toward the purchase of 1.2 acres along the Mad River. This land is adjacent to existing Division of Wildlife-owned property along the river, near the intersection of state Routes 29 and 296, just north of Urbana.

I hope everyone is ready for some spring fishing if you haven’t been out lately.
Steelhead fishing is upon us and warmwater fish have been moving. It won’t be long
Before spring is here!
Our speaker this meeting is none other than our own Mike Mehrle.
Mike is well Known for his smallmouth fishing expertise.
Mike will be talking about hunting smallmouth bass in small creeks, how to find public access points, how to hunt the smallies down, and the flies he uses to catch trophies.
This is a topic you won’t want to miss!
We will also be hold another short raffle at the meeting. We will raffle off some of Mike’s great smallmouth flies as well as 2 tickets to the upcoming Fly Fishing Film Festival.
The Film Festival is March 5 at Studio 35. Raffle tickets will be $2 each.

The Board of Directors of Trout Unlimited Madmen Chapter #477 is pleased to announce this year’s Annual Meeting which will be held in conjunction with the Chapter’s first-ever Gala event at the Simon Kenton Inn in Springfield, OH. All Chapter members, their guests and others interested in supporting the Mad River are invited to attend. The “meeting” portion of this affair will be brief with the main emphasis being on fun, food, entertainment and camaraderie. “Social Hour” begins at 6:00 p.m. with a cash bar, looping fly fishing videos and guest fly-tiers Kevin Ramsey and George Daniel. A buffet-style dinner from 7:00 until 8-ish followed by a 15-minute (or so) business meeting. Our main presentation by George Daniel will follow. The evening will conclude with our biggest raffle yet, including a Thomas & Thomas fly rod and reel (TBD) as the Grand Prize. It has been said for the fly-fisherman, the St. Joe River is an enigma wrapped in a mystery. This program will unwrap the mystery of what is quite possibly the best steelhead fishery in the United States. This presentation covers the vast angling opportunities the river and its tributaries offer throughout the year. Included are techniques for steelhead, salmon, smallmouth bass, longnose gar, rod/reel selection, fly selection, terminal rigging, and reading the water.
